About

Built for people who need fast, accurate unit conversions

Length Converter is a free, no-account-required tool for converting between units of length — instantly, accurately, and without distractions.

Why this exists

The world runs on two measurement systems — metric and imperial — and they will probably coexist for a long time. A carpenter in São Paulo reading an American woodworking plan needs to convert inches to centimeters. A runner in London following a US training program needs to understand what "5K" means in miles. A product manager comparing screen sizes across international SKUs needs cm-to-inch conversions on demand.

Most conversion tools are cluttered, slow, or full of ads that get in the way. We set out to build something different: a focused tool that gives you the answer before you finish typing, with enough context to actually understand what you're converting — not just a number, but a real-world anchor.

What we cover

Today, Length Converter covers length and distance: from the everyday (centimeters, meters, kilometers, inches, feet, miles) to the specialized (nautical miles for navigation, micrometers for manufacturing, nanometers for optics and semiconductors, ångströms for atomic measurements, and astronomical units and light-years for space distances).

Every conversion page includes the exact formula, a quick-reference table of common values, real-world examples, and answers to the most frequently asked questions about that specific pair of units. We don't generate filler content — each page is written to be genuinely useful.

Accuracy and methodology

All conversion factors are based on internationally standardized definitions. The inch-to-centimeter relationship (1 in = 2.54 cm exactly) was fixed by the International Yard and Pound Agreement of 1959. The meter is defined by the speed of light. Astronomical units and light-years are defined by the International Astronomical Union.

We use floating-point arithmetic with sufficient precision for all practical purposes. Results are displayed to four decimal places by default, which covers the vast majority of real-world use cases from everyday measurement to engineering work.

Our principles

Speed first

Results update as you type. No buttons to click, no page reloads. Your answer is there before you finish entering the value.

No account needed

There is nothing to sign up for, no email required, and no data collected beyond anonymous usage analytics.

Always improving

We add new unit categories, improve content, and refine the interface based on how people actually use the tool.
